Sound Preview Works, Won't work during Show

M

Mississippi Girl

I have linked an mp3 file and set it to play across all slides. If i click
the preview button i hear the file fine. I have also clicked hide the icon
during show. However, the icon will not hide during the show and i get no
sound run the show runs.

I am pulling out my hair on this. I have used this forever on PPT 2003.
Now in PPT 2007, it will not work. Yes, the mp3 and ppt are in the same
folder and yes the path if very short (10 characters). The mp3 is 16 MB but
linked not embedded. I just want to play this on my computer (xp pro) only.
Thanks!

Just drag the icon off the to the side of the slide it will not be seen
during the slide show MP3 files are always linked. the only WAV files get
embedded. Look here on how to have you sound play across multiple slides.

That's not the issue. It won't play during the show. It will play if i
press the power point preview button. But if i start the show, the show runs
with no sound. I have it set to play across 999 slides. I've googled and
read threads and i have not seen one where the music will play if you press
the ppt preview button, but not run during the show!

Hi Mississippi Girl

Have you tried re-inserting the sound? Do you have SP1 installed? What is
the slide show volume set to?

i have removed, inserted, dozens of times. I finally had to play the sound
out of itunes and then play the ppt separately.

It is so strange that it obvioulsy can find the file and play it from inside
ppt, just not while running the show. I don't think its a memory issue, i
have 4 GB and the show and music run at the same time in itunes and ppt. I
have auto updates on and it automatically loaded the new Office 2003 SP3. I
don't have anything 2003 on this machine so i thought that odd. But several
things have "broken" since that was automatically loaded my microsoft. I
would just like to figure this out because i run these kinds of shows all the
time.

Could be a DRM (Digital Rights Management) thing. You might want to look
here for a possible solution http://www.playsforcertain.com/

I made the mp3 file myself. So there should be no "rights" on it. I tried
playsforcertains free download of PFCExpress. It would not run with ppt
2007. It just said could not find the macro. I uninstalled and reinstalled
it 3 times. It shows up on the add-ins but won't run. i changed my security
settings to enable all macros (which i will turn back off) and it still
didn't work.

If it were a rights issue, i would not think it would play during the
preview but not the show. I guess i'll have to buy a third party software to
make 2007 work. Or use my old laptop with 2003 which works fine.
Thanks for ya'lls help.

Contact playsforcertain about the problems you are having with the add-in as
the 2 things may be related - if you sort out the add-in issue you may also
sort out the weird sound issue.

Also, have you tried converting the mp3 to a wav? Just a thought.

Like Lucy say give Austin a call about PlaysforCertain. I really find this
very interesting. How big is your MP3 file? I'd sure like to give it a try
to see what happens

The mp3 file is 16 MB. I did convert to .wav (huge 184 MB) neither worked.

I did not see any way to contact playsforcertain except for a fee. Since i
only have the free one downloaded. I thought about downloading the full 14
day trial and if it worked to go ahead and buy it. Maybe that's my next step.

I would have thought that Austin Meyers would have jumped into this thread
already. If you want to try sending the MP3 file to me at (e-mail address removed)
You might be restricted to file size by your server. You can have OE break
up the file and send it in parts, and it will compile when I open the file.

Does this happen with just this specific file? (MP3) I ask as it may well
contain DRM and PPT will not let you use it in a show.
