Limited or No Connectivity - Windows XP

J

I've read previous problems but mine seems to be different. After
running Windows XP Pro SP 2, whenever my laptop goes into standby mode
OR the hard drives are turned off OR the system hibernates, and then I
begin working again, I get the message "limited or no connectivity."
And, I can not access the internet anymore (unlike the other problem
descriptions I've seen). My machine is plugged into a router and the
router into the cable modem. Any ideas how I can fix this? The only
way I can reaccess the internet is to restart my machine. Thanks
