Hello anyone....I just got a new computer with Windows XP. I set myself as
administrator and my daughter has a limited user account. She isn't able to
access the internet while on her account. Can I change this and how? Would
appreciate any help offered. Thanks

HI,
Not sure how you connect to the internet but being a limited account has no
impact here.
You still need to setup an internet account either dial-up or ADSL in
internet explorer.

Use the internet connection wizard to help you set up an account. You need
to know your
Dial-up number, username and password given by your ISP.

Panda_man >> Not true.
It has no impact only if we are talking about the usual phone dial-up
connection.
However I think we are talking about other high_speed internet connection
like Cable/DSL or LAN

Limited users in Windows XP has their dial up connections but if the admin
has disabled the so called high speed connection (admin disables the network
adapter as well as the connection) the limited has not connection.
That's why you ,the admin, need to ENABLE the high_speed connection and then
log off and your kid log in because then Windows will understand the admin
has left the connection ON.

Just because I am working generally with fighting malware and in your case
(you have a child using the net) you may have a look at this file written by
me .You can understand how to protect your computer and how to minimize the
risk of having infecting PC .Children sometimes don't know what to do ad
that's why the admin should have left the computer almost 100% protected
before lefting limited user surfing.

Because of the fact the provided file is DOCument, you need Office Pack to
open and view it.
If you don't have Microsoft Office ,Open Office or another ,you should
download
Microsoft Word viewer (free)

Office Word viewer 200

I am using dial up. I have already installed it and I am able to get online
fine. My daughter has an account also on windows xp, but when she logs on
she is unable to connect to the internet. Is there anything we have to do to
set up her account to give her access to the net, or should she just be able
to connect. She is 17 and hearing impaired, and very frustrated not being
allowed on her own account. Thanks for everyone's help. I really do
appreciate it.

Have you set-up the internet account on your daughters Account?
If not..
You need to run the connection wizard on each account or write down the
details from your account and manually set-up the account..
If you have set-up the account on your daughters login it's another issue
entirely

Post back with details.

I set up a limited account, and my daughter was able to access the internet
fine. Now all of a sudden, she can't. She gets an error message. I am
using a cable modem for wireless access. Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Cindy,

I was having the same problem. Ends up it was caused by an internet filter I
set up on the administrator account. I needed to login to the filter on the
limited accounts in order for the net to work on them. The filter was locking
them out of the web altogether. I logged into the filter software on each
limited account and it works fine now.
