Light flashes on HP 5370 scanner?

Hi,

I am using XP Pro and the HP 5370c scanner has been working fine via USB
but today it isn't.

It says it cannot be found so when I look at it, the light is flashing 6
times then halts for a second or 2 then does it all again.

I have turned it off and re booted the computer etc., but still the same.

I have changed the usb connection as well but still the same.

Any help?

Thanks

No, it isn't, because Rock says it has been working fine.

Maybe the lamp/light doesn't go on or doesn't produce sufficient light.
Maybe USB-communication isn't established. maybe the carriage isn't where it
should be or doesn't move the way it should.

Thanks guys..

I hope it isn't DOA!

When I turn it on the carriage moves about an inch forward then back
then the light starts flashing.

I have opened and closed the lock a few times and also the cables so it
could be a motherboard fault.

I love this scanner and it's slide options etc and would prefer to get
it fixed if it was not too much money than pay al ot to get another.
Any ideas what a mobo for this scanner would cost ?

Thanks thus far ..
