Licence Clarification

need to ascertain some issues on Terminal Service CAL on
Windows 2000 TS. It is clear that windows 2000 and XP
client receive free CAL while connection to TS on W2K
while all client need with TS on W2003.

1) Are CAL being issued to the users or to the client
from which the user is connected.
Reason: I have both users and client listed on "Temporary
Licenses for W2K TS CAL" and "W2K TS Client"

2)Why do a single client being issued with more that 1
CAL eventhough they are W2K /XP clients.
Reason: I have W2K / XP client listed on "Temporary
Licenses for W2K TS CAL" and "W2K TS Client" with 1
expired CAL and another one still valid. I would have
expected the client to receive free CAL for the Built-
in "Existing W2K License"

3) For how long does expired Temporary CAL still feature
on the IU (Temporary Licenses for W2K TS CAL)?

Thanks

If your Server has not been activated yet, all new clients
will receive temp. license (If your server is running in
APP. Mode) You should activate your server first (Its'
free) and then no longer temp license will be attribuate.
Be carefull, if you have win 9x ME, NT4 or Thin clients,
they will no longer receive temp license, so you will need
to purchace TSCAL for theses clients. But if all of your
TS Clientsare in windows 2000 or XP you don't have to
purchase TSCAL, they have their own.

Charles,

The TS is activated and has some TSCAL installed.

1)Is a lincence not supposed to returned to the pool if a
client does not come back for a parmanent one. I have 2
systems with expired TSCAL since 2002.

2) Is normal for a single client to be listed more than
once under "Existing Windows 2000 Licence"?

Thanks,
ao
