After loading the printer I have an icon in the system
tray that says-safely remove usb mass storage device that
I do not want to appear. And my computer starts up very
slowly now. I run windows XP p4 processor 2.4 ghz. windows
xp.

The USB Mass Storage Device is the slot in the printer where you insert your
Smart Media/Compact Flash card (or whichever it is you use) from your
digital camera directly into the printer.

The icon that appears is supposed to be there!
