lexmark Z52 printer not recognized

Greg

I am trying to set up my Lexmark Z52 printer on my new
(windows XP) computer. I used it previously with a
computer running Windows 98.

When I plug in the USB port, Windows XP says it does not
recognize it. Trying to install it as a new printer
doesn't work. There is no option for a USB port. I
don't think I want to set the port as LPT, do I? When I
do use an LPT port Windows XP says it can't communicate
with the printer.

I downloaded a driver from Lexmark. Going to Device
Manager and trying to assign a driver to
this "unrecognized device" doesn't seem to work either.
When I point to the folder containing the driver I down
loaded from Lexmark, Windows XP comes back and says that
there is no data for this device in that folder.

Any advice?
Greg

The Lexmark home page suggests that there is no XP driver for your printer
but only for Windows 95 & 98

Thanks for taking the time to help. I did find a driver
for the Z52 for Windows XP at the following Lexmark page

http://drivers.lexmark.com/drivers.nsf/printer+driver/EA37
CBC9EB06598285256AF0007698C3?
OpenDocument&Lexmark+Z52+Color+Jetprinter

I downloaded it and unzipped it. When I go into Device
Manager and try to assign it as the driver for my printer
(which shows up as "unrecognized device") Windows XP says
there's no data for it in that folder

OK. Suggest that you remove the printer via device manager and any printer
software via ContolPanel Add/Remove. Then reboot and XP will find and
install the printer. Then install the XP driver that you downloaded

Greg, if the Lexmark Driver for the z52 is anything like the Lexmark
driver for the z53, the Readme file for the driver says that it must be
installed via the Add Printer Wizard, not via Device Manager.

Download the driver from Lexmark, then unzip it into a folder on your
HD, then in the Add Printer wizard point it to the inf file in that
folder.
