Launching Outlook

Renee

I am having problems launching Outlook, it just does not
open, I just get the first image of Outlook and then the
program just does not respond. I have uninstalled it,
reinstalled it, reinstalled Windows 98, (all this many
times)nothing works!!
Did anyone have this problem and is it possible that
Office is not being installed on the right drive? The only
option I imagine is to do a quickrestore to my computer.
I really would rather not. So, if anyone has any idea, I'm
just waiting for it.

Is this a new problem?
Has it ever worked?
It doesnt matter which drive its installed on
Version of OL?

Close Outlook. Find and rename outcmd.dat to .old. (If using Windows 2000 or XP, you will need to enable searching hidden and system folders.)

Once you have done so, reopen Outlook and it should open fine. You will need to rebuild any custom toolbars or customizations as the file outcmd.dat controls how the toolbars display. When it becomes corrupted, it will cause Outlook to hang because it cannot create the toolbars that you expect.

After a lot of head-scratching, Renee asked:
