Latest Security Update Breaks Folder Properties

Both of the XP machines I manage ran the latest security
update this morning. After a reboot the behaviour of the
folder->properties option has been affected on both
machines.

On the XP Home PC the properties window now takes a long
time to appear - up to a minute.

On the XP Pro PC the properties window does not appear at
all - or at least it hasn't appeared after 1 hour. On XP
Pro this affects all the security and sharing related
windows; there is no way to access these any more.

Any ideas?

I installed these 2 this morning:

Security Update for Windows XP (KB810217)
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 SP1
(KB824145)

I was completely up to date before that.

As extra information, I was on a single router, multiple
PC network with the router running a firewall. I believe
that in the process of trying to fix the properties form
problem I changed back to simple file sharing under tools-
options->view in explorer - previously simple file
sharing was disabled. After rebooting, properties form for
folders was working again, although file sharing was
disabled (didn't seem to like my network configuration). I
then changed back to simple file sharing disabled and
everything appears to be ok.

I have no issues on the machines that I have it installed on. Have you
tried to remove it to see if it resolved the problem?
