Laserjet 5L Paper Feed

Hope someone can help. I got this 5L used and it would always feed the
paper up to the big long roller under the toner cartridge and stop
just before. Usually, it would print fine if the paper tray only had 1
sheet, but would always feed multiple sheets if the paper was stacked
up.

I actually ordered new rollers and pads and just replaced all the
inside parts using one of the repair kits that is supposed to address
the partial feed and multiple sheet feed issue wth this printer, but
now all that happens is that it just the partial feed up to that same
roller and stops, doesn't matter how much paper is in there.

It seems the problem with this one is different. Can someone please
offer a suggestion. Again, all the rollers were just replaced with all
new parts.

Did you get the kit with the video? I'm working from memory here as i did mine
(successfully) way over a year back. There is a possibility that the cam-shaped
thing is on the shaft 180 degrees out. Apart from that - and I'm sure you've
already done this countless times - the only other suggestion is to try it with
the case off and watch the process until you spot something. HTH

Actually, I did ttry it. It doesnt do jack $#$% if i reverse the
pickup roller 180 degrees. I was talking to someone bout this and he
said one of the sensors in the paper feed assembly may be bad. In
addition, I messed up the cartridge by exposing it to light when I
flipped the cover off the drum.

Does anyone have any spare parts for this thing from an old one around
that I might be able to get? I need the 2 sensors on the bottom of the
paper feed assembly and a replacement toner cartridge.

When you fitted the new paper feed roller onto it's shaft you placed
it 180 degrees out of place. Simply strip down again and turn that
roller 180 degrees and you problems hould be solved. It can go either
way so when working on it this time mark the shaft and roller before
you remove the roller and replace it the opposite way round.

addition, I messed up the cartridge by exposing it to light when I

In my experience light damage (at least from a few minutes' exposure)
to the drum repairs itself after a few hours.

Actually, I did mention I tried reversing the pickup roller 180
degrees to see if I put it on backwards and instead of feeding it
partially in, it didn't even grab the paper. I appreciate the
suggestion however and hope to resolve this. If you have any other
ideas, feel free to post them here. Thanks

Try using the old rollers with the new separation pad (the worn pad itself
was the cause of the multiple feed). If it works, you got some bad rollers.
If it still don't work, something wasn't installed right during the course
of the repair.

Did you have the paper jam protector installed inside the fuser roller
cage? I would assume the shop would have done that for you, but one
never knows.

This printer has been very troublesome and has required several
repairs in my case. With the price of newer lasers going down it might
be worth considering a replacement.
