HP 1100A paper feed

I know that you can buy a kit to put new rollers into an HP 1100
printer to stop the multiple paper feed problem. They cost about the
price of a new printer, though, so I'm loth to do that.

The printer is reliable and I've just put a new toner cartridge into
it, so I don't really want to get rid of it. Poking one piece of paper
at a time into it isn't fun though.

I wondered if anybody had done anything clever to fix this problem. If
it's because of smooth rollers in the paper feed, I'd imagine that
feeding a sheet of sandpaper through the machine would do the trick.
Before trying this, I'd like to know if anybody has a better suggestion.

There is no relaible way to do this other than fitting the kit.
See http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/kits/hp/K35 I would be surprised if you
could buy a printer for that and be sure that it works. Since you have a new
cartridge and a printer that otherwise is OK the price of the kit seems a
bargain. You can source them from other places also.

Thank you - you're right! The site I'd seen was selling the kit for
five times as much - which isn't such a bargain.
