Laptops & SP2

I am looking into purchasing a laptop, and I noticed that new laptops
come with SP2. When I installed SP2 into my desktop computer last year,
it caused my computer to run very slow on the Internet. I reverted back
to SP1.

Those of you that are using laptops that came with SP2- are you
experiencing any problems, such as webpages taking forever to load? I am
wondering if I should buy an up-to-date laptop, or instead buy an older
laptop that has SP1. Thanks.

It's a reasonably safe bet that a compter with SP2 pre-installed will
finction properly.

We have several hundred laptop users, all running XP Prof Sp2 and most
of those started with SP1 on their systems. None of them have
experienced any "slow down" issues when moving from SP1 to SP2.

I would suggest that you look at the cause and not just generalize that
SP2 caused the slow-down. Have you checked with your laptop vendor to
determine their recommendation for installing SP2? Many vendors came out
with BIOS updates, some with driver updates, and then there is the
malware issue - the system needs to be CLEAN before installing SP2.

My laptop and both of my desktops all have SP2 installed. Neither is
experiencing any slowdown or any other problems.

I don't know what your SP2 problem was last year, but your assumption that
SP2 causes a slowdown on the internet is not correct. There is no reason to
avoid SP2, and many reasons why it is very important that you have it.
