Laptop won't show video

Have a Sony Vaio with Win XP pro. Internet Explorer will connect to Real Media, Windows Media, etc. and start playing files, but only the sound comes through, no video. Same thing happens on AOL and just about everything...even when I try to capture video with Adobe Premiere. Same thing happens when I play mpeg files directly from my hard drive, so this is not just via Internet

All I get is a black screen as the file plays and I hear the sound. Any help

Look into "codecs".

Perhaps you could get and install the k-lite codec pack (basic).
