Laptop touchpad problem

My roommate was using my laptop and didn't have the power cord plugged in
properly - the battery drained and it started to hibernate. When this
happened (he says) he pressed one of the media keys on the keyboard surface
area - it stopped hibernating and the dvd player came online. At this point
the touchpad stopped working and I can't get it to work again. I don't have a
mouse so I don't have any way to navigate around the system. Could he have
locked it somehow? It's a Toshiba satellite laptop and one of the function
keys is a touchpad lock - I've tried this but it has no effect. Is this an
easy fix or a big problem?

Thanks

You might want to ask Toshiba too.
