laptop startup issues

have a compaq 4/20.

in startu it gives me an error "168 , cmos checksum error"

any bright spark able to shed some light on this for me ?

Well I've most often come across that message when the cmos battery is
flat and needs replacing. Mind you, this is with desktop PCs. Would
imagine same problem can occur with laptops also.
