laptop problem

windows xp. My son has been downloading games to laptop, now menus flicker
making it difficult to select an option. ideally i would like a solution to
this problem.please help

Firstly stop your son downloading games. Then do a System restore to a
period before this started.
Then prevent your son from being able to install games.

Have you checked the system for ScumWare?
