Laptop powers off during standby?!

P

Phillip

Hi,

I want to use my laptop as a secondary alarm clock.

I set windows scheduler to wake up at 8am every morning, then put the
laptop in standby mode. However some mornings it wakes up, just fine.
But many mornings I find the computer is completely powered off. As if
there had been a power cut during the night which had wiped out
standby mode. (My laptop doesn't currently have a battery in) When I
turn the computer on, it just boots Windows from scratch, no
recollection of the previous session...

It's really annoying as its a basic function that should work!

PLease - any suggestions? (try a different power pack? try an
alternative to windows scheduler?)

Many many thanks!

My first thought would be to put a battery in it to deal with
potential power glitches. If you can't afford a battery, get an alarm
clock. :)

He already has the world's most expensive alarm clock! ;-)

point taken. Replace my old battery.

But from this, do I take it you suspect a simply power glitch which
standby mode couldn't handle?

Incidentally, my laptop is a few years old, the battery weighed a
brick inside and was giving only 2 mins life, so I just took it out.
But maybe I could put it in, a year later and see if it helped just
this one problem.

As for my computer being an expensive laptop - yes - well I use my
phone as a primary alarm, very reliable, but it can't wake me up with
a fullscreen episode of seinfeld over desktop speakers... that's why i
want my laptop working properly! :)

Suggestions?

The gods! Why would you want to do that?
