LANGUAGE BAR IS MISSING!!!!!!!!!!!

I installed the Japanese IME for Windows XP.
I enabled the Language Bar Bar as a tool bar on the Task
Bar.
Also, on in the Text Services & Input Languages thingy I
keep enabling EXTEND SUPPORT OF ADVANCED TEXT SERVICES TO
ALL PROGRAMS and disabling TURN OFF ADVANCED TEXT
SERVICES. but even after i reboot it goes right back to
EXTEND (disabled) and TURN OFF (enabled).

this is so frustrating.

i know the Language Bar is installed, because when i boot
up windows i can see it in the bottom right corner of the
where the task bar should be. But after the task bar
appears, the Language Bar disappears!!!!!!!!!

How did you install the Japanese IME? Did you download the IME from
MS or did you install it from your XP CD (the correct way)?

Please go to the following web site and look over the instructions and
information for installing an Asian IME. He has excellent examples
and directions. Perhaps you can find something there that can help
solve your problem.

CS, thanks for the tip. i'll check that site now.

as for how i installed it, i was told to download it from
microsoft. i didn't realize you could install it off the
XP disk. I wonder if that's what's causing the problem...

look, why don't you try to contribute to the
conversation. a lesson in netiquette is besides the
point here.

if you don't have something constructive to contribute to
the thread, move on.

this is a frustrating issue SO I'LL SHOUT IF I LIKE.

So, before I came here I scoured the web for any
information from people who had this same problem.
Absolutely no one had a fix.

I don't know who moderates this forum, but if these are
archived, I've got a solution (it's kind of a "duh!"
solution).

I uninstalled Asian Language Text Support
I uninstalled Japanese IME
rebooted
double checked that those things were indeed uninstalled.

then I did a Repair Installation of Windows XP
<<not recovery console>>

During the installation process:
I installed East Asian Lanaguage Text Support
I installed Japanese IME
(note: Language Bar button was still grayed out)

I continued installation
Nearly 150 "could not be copied" from the XP disk
(i think this was because of SP2 - grrrr)
I just cancelled and continued installation without
copying those files, which left the old files/apps in
place.

After a very long start up I once again had access to my
desktop.
At this point the Language Bar showed up.
The Language Bar Settings are no longer grayed out.
All related problems are apparently fixed.

Hope this helps anyone else who has been as frustrated as
I over this issue!
