LAN 'TCP/IP is not enabled for this connection'

My home network has failed and when a repair is attempted
on the 'Local Area Connection' or the '1394 Connection'
the message 'TCP/IP is not enabled for this connection.
Cannot proceed' is displayed.
When an attempt is made to start again and use the wizard
to set up a home network I encounter a 'Spooler Subsystem
App error'.
I have checked the KB and FAQ but can find no similar
problems and, because of my limited knowledge, those
replies that involve TCP/IP I find difficult to fully
understand.
Thank you in advance for any help that you can give.
