LAN Problem

I have recently networked my 2 home PC's, via an ethernet crossover cable, no
hubs etc, no probs but im constantly getting a limited or no connectivity
warning on both, both are showing up in the workgroup section on each
machine, and i can share files and print but when it comes to trying to link
up for LAN gaming they are not connecting, any ideas??

P.S On the connection status of both there is only the IP address and the
Subnet mask no details on Default gateway or DNS server or WINS server. What
am i doing wrong?

The crossover cable has poorly installed rj-45 plugs on it. Wiggling the
wires in the plug will probably get you disconnect, and reconnect, back and
forth.
