LAN Not Detect

I have problem with LAN connection. I am using Laptop computer and I remember
that I allow system to stop scanning LAN connection on battery power. Now
that when I don't have power cord with me, I can't connect my laptop through
LAN connection. Basically, it just doesn't detect LAN Card at all (Can't find
such device in device manager). I have to have power cord with me to be able
to detect LAN Card (Network Device will appear back on in Device Manager).
How can I set my system such that my LAN Card will be active all the time.
It's so inconvenient for me when I have my laptop around but can't connect
through wired network. I believe that this is Window XP features and there
should be a way to reset such option. Can someone please advice.

Open the Device Manager and locate your NIC adapter.
Right-click on it and select Properties > Power Management.
Remove the check next to "Allow the computer to turn off
this device to save power", then click OK

Thanks for such a prompt response, however, I tried that but I still can't
get the icon on the task bar or adapter in device manager list to remain
there. The moment I unplug my powercord, the adapter will disappear. And no
matter how I tried to plug in the network cable or reboot the system after
changing the option, it just doesn't detect the network. Is there something
else that I need to do?

Hi Spider,

Is the Network you are trying to connect to, your own? Is it a Secure
Network where you need to supply a shared key to connect to that Network? Is
it an Open Network?

Try reconnecting to the Network, after booting up the computer on
Battery Power.

If it doesn't work, then remove your Lan Card. Uninstall its software.
Reboot the computer. Now reinstall the LAN Card software and reboot the
computer. Once rebooted, reconnect the LAN Card. It should start scanning
for a Network. You need to be broadcasting the SSID and Radio ON from the
Router in order to see the Network. Once reconnected, you can turn off the
SSID Broadcasting of its ID.

You don't need to reformat and reinstall the operating system to solve
this problem.
