Lacie Hard drive does not load

I have a Lacie 600 Gb hard drive that will not load on any Windows XP PC.
I've tried 5 different PC and even tried a PC with Windows 2000.
It shows as mass storage device andthen lists code 10

I've uninstalled the driver and powercyled all devices, same problem.
I last used the drive a month ago and had successfully removed the device
before shutting down my system and it hasn't loaded since.

Best thing now to do is go to manufactures web site and download the
diagnostics program to disk and check the disk.

LaCie hard drives are utter crap, which is why they are so cheap. I often
see these drives returned for reasons similar to yours. Running a program
that analyzes drives reveals that even with the same model line, LaCie uses
wildly different drive components.

LaCie drives are slow, run hot, and tend to have flakey controller and logic
boards.

My best advice to anyone purchasing a drive...pass right on by the cheap
brands like LaCie.
Stick with reputable brands like Seagate, or Maxtor. Western Digital drives
were once good drives, but now they drop like flies, so I cannot recommend
them any longer. I have only had three hard drives fail on me, and all
three were Western Digital.

Just a side note; Seagate has a new line of external hard drives, called
FreeAgent and FreeAgent pro. They come with a 5 year warranty. I picked up
a 250GB Seagate FreeAgent at Best Buy for $100. It is fast, quiet, runs very
cool, and looks like no other drive I have seen.
