Kingston 1 GB memory stick

The manual says simply hook into a USB port, and that thereafter Data
Traveller II Plus will be displayed in the "My Computer"
utility as a Removable Disk.

Well, this isn't happening. Please advise asap!

try restarting the computer and see if it makes a difference if not try
doing system restore if you are using winxp
