Flash drive not recognized

Larry

On Win XP (sp2) Fully Patched.
I just bought a Kingston 2 Gig Flash drive (Data Traveler Elite)
When I plug it into any USB port, it is not recognized.
I have gone into computer Management, Disk Management,
all of the removable drives say "Removable - No Media"
I have rebooted with the flash drive plugged in, still isn't recognized.

This is the second new flash drive that I have had this problem with.
Strange, because if I plug in an old flash drive, it is recognized.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in Advance,
Laurence

Exactly what USB ports --- in the backplane or through a
unpowered or powered hub?

The ports are in the front, they are powered.
The strange thing is that my old flash drives work in the front ports,
and my new flash drive, does work in other computers.

I checked in computer management - Device Manager,
there is a yellow question mark under "Other Devices", it says: "DT
Elite HS 2.0". This must be the kingston flash drive. When I right click
on it and select update driver, and go through the panels, in the end it
says, "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the
necessary hardware"
