I've got a tough one,,(for me anyway) I've got a PC running XP that won't
display anything on the monitor except the mouse cursor. If I start it in
"safe mode" it shows the "safe mode" words in each corner and the mouse
cursor,,,that's it. I even stuck a new graphics card in,,,same thing. It's
KILLIN' ME! The kids loaded a game on it not too long before this happened so
that might be it. Any hints at all? PLEASE tell me I don't need to
re-install Windows. I can get into repair mode and get the dos prompt.

Did you try to run System Restore and select a date/time before when the
game was installed?

Hi,

If you have remote desktop enabled and have two systems, you may try to use
remote desktop from one to connect to the other one which is having the
problem.

From there, you can try to uninstall the game (or programs) that is causing
the problem, or viewing event logs and device manager to see if there are
something wrong there.

Also, you can try to use another monitor and to see if that is the problem
of the existing monitor - just to rule out the possibility of a pure
hardware problem.

Finally but not lastly, you could try a repair installation from this link:
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

If you were about to do the repair installation, please do follow the
instructions carefully.

Good luck.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to get into System Restore,,,unless you have a
way I could do it that is non-Windows. I can see themouse arrow just
fine,,,and it moves around just great but that's all I can see

I WISH I had remote desktop or something setup to get into it. I didn't have
the chance to do it yet unfortunately. As far as the monitor, i can give it
a try but I really don't think so. During boot up it shows the Windows
screen and the moving little timer bar just fine,,,then all goes black except
the mouse cursor that moves around just fine. I can try it though. I'll try
the repair link you sent but I've already tried the repair option. I'll
look a little closer to see if the link does something different than what
I've already done,,,
Thanks

OK, here's something that perhaps you can try if you can get yourself
to a DOS prompt while booting:

(from C:\ Prompt) %systemroot%/system32/restore/rstrui.exe

Hi,

yes, please read the instructions carefully, as it was not as I thought when
I did my first repair installation on the "not to press R" option.

After I read your message the second time, I'd suggest you to use the
original VGA card when you are doing the debug.

I am not 100% certain, but there is likely to have a conflict when you
inserted a new VGA card without removing the old driver first which will
complicate your problems and make it difficult for you to identify the real
problem.

If you have a second system, you could try the old VGA card there or have a
vendor test if the VGA card is working properly.

Good luck.

The user profile of the account you're using has been
corrupted/damaged. Simply log in using the built-in Administrator
account and create a new user account for your use. You can then copy
desired the files and settings from the damaged profile to this newly
created user profile.

By design, the only way to log into the Administrator account of WinXP
Home is to reboot into Safe Mode. For WinXP Pro, pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL
twice at the Welcome Screen will produce the standard login dialog box.
