Since we can not see your screen, we don't know what is a "kept email slot".
The program itself does not make a folder called "kept".
I encourage my customers to make a folder, called "save", maybe you called it "kept", to store mail they read but do not want to delete.
Unfortunately this folder, being custom made, can also be deleted if you are not careful.
Have you looked in the Deleted Items folder?
If you deleted the "kept" folder, and emptied the Deleted Items folder, most likely you have lost those messages.
One has to be careful when deleting messages in a custom folder.
You may think your have highlighted just the message, when in fact you highlighted the folder.
Then the delete command deletes the entire folder.
Windows Mail will not let you delete the default folders (Inbox, outbox, drafts, etc.) but it will let you delete the folders you make.
