Keeps Rebooting at Shutdown Problem

Whenever I try to shutdown Windows 2000 SP4 by doing the following the
computer keeps rebooting:

1. Click Start
2. Click Shutdown
3. Shut Down window opens stating, "What do you want the computer to do?"
Select Shutdown and click the OK button.
4. The screen turn blue and another windows opens stating, "Please wait,
windows is shutting down.
5. Instead of shutting down the computer reboots.

Does anyone know what is causing this problem and how it can be fixed?

Would appreciate any help anyone may have.

Have you checked the System event log to see if the system is crashing
during shutdown, and automatically restarting? Disable Auto Reboot (System
Properties/Advanced Tab/Startup and Recovery Settings button/Uncheck
Automatically restart) and see if the system is crashing.

Hi Kevin,

I unchecked the "Automatically reboot" in the System Failure section, but my
computer still reboots when I try to shutdown.

Do you have any other suggestions for a fix?

If the system is not bug checking, then the next thing I would suggest is to
follow the steps in Knowledge Base article 315409 How to troubleshoot
shutdown problems in Windows 2000 (http://support.microsoft.com/?id=315409).
Hopefully they will help you identify the cause of the restarting.
