Keeping Work & Personal emails seperate

My Outlook has two data files which are open at the same time. One is
work.ost which connects to the corporate exchange server and one is
personal.pst which connects to my local ISP. My personal.pst has it's own
SMTP and POP3 server that it uses.

However, when I send an email using my personal account it appears in the
outbox of the work.ost folder. But after it sends, it shows up in the sent
box of my personal folder. If someone replys to the email it also comes into
the personal inbox.

My real question is, whenever I send using my personal account and the
message bounces (says an email address was incorrect) the bounced message
comes into the inbox for the work.ost folder. I have no idea why it does
this. I want to make sure my personal email isn't going across the exchange
server. Can anyone enlighten me on how this works?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike, isn't using your work time and your employers computer to send
personal message a bit like stealing?

Chuck,
I'm an independent contractor and my biggest client let's me tie into their
exchange server. I'm trying to make sure I don't utilize their server for
anything that's not directly related to them. The computer is owned by me.
Thanks,
Mike

Should be pretty easy to tell if the message has gone through the Exchange
server. Send a mail to a hotmail/gmail/whatever address while connected to
the Exchange server and check the headers of the message and look at the
Received headers.

As for the bounced message, look at the headers of that, as well as the text
of the message, and you should have a prett good indication of whether or
not the Exchange server was involved.
