keep with next?

Hi.
I'm using various heading styles in my document, numbered from 1 to 9. I
have tried to create them in a way, which ensures that a heading cannot be
dislayed at the bottom of a page without any text below it; I thought that
the "keep with next" feature in the paragraph settings would ensure this,
however this is not the case. If using e.g. heading 3, which is followed by
body text, I sometimes end up with the rather stupid looking layout that
only the heading is visible on the bottom of the page and then the body text
is on the next, then I have to use a manual page break to move the heading
to the next page. What have I been doing wrong??

kind regards

Allan

Very likely you're pressing Enter twice after your heading. This keeps the
heading with the empty paragraph following but not with the actual text
paragraph after that. If the default amount of Space After in Heading 3 (3
points) is not enough for you, change the style formatting to add more.

Also, if you're using the headings to create an outline (which I hope is the
case, since otherwise you can expect to lose readers after three or four
heading levels), you probably need to remove the KWN formatting from Heading
4 (it's default for Headings 1-3) and make sure you don't have it enabled
for all levels; otherwise (unless you have intervening body text), all your
paragraphs will chase each other from page to page.

I do thank you for your reply. I'm not actually using nine headings so don't
worry, if I'm losing the readers it's because of the actual content :) I'm
definately not pressing Enter twice, when I use the "show all" feature, only
one paragraph mark is shown. My headings are all followed by a body text
style, so I'm pretty much still in the dark about what to do.

Kind regards

Okay, it sounds like you're doing everything right. The only suggestion I
can make, then, is to make sure that the body text style is not formatted as
KWN. If you continue to experience this problem, I'd be happy to look at a
sample of a misbehaving document. Also, if you're experiencing the problem
only in specific documents, it's possible there's some corruption; see
