Is there any reason why this huge (248 MB) patch needs to be installed? Is
there anywhere you can go to download it so it can be put on a network for
installation to multiple computers?

What do you mean by "most intrusive"? Are there know problems with it?

I downloaded it and installed it on a couple of XP Pro SP2 computers,
rebooted, then started the downloads, and it still came up. What gives????
