I have tried 5 or more times to install the Microsoft update my Windows Live
One Care is telling me I need to install. It is the update .NET Framework
3.5 Service Pack and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847)x86. I
recently installed a new hard drive and copied all files over...now seem to
be having problems with this update. Error message is ox643....which I can't
find either. HELP! After reading other posts, I sure don't want NEW
problems...! Is this a critical update?

you might try uninstalling
your net frameworks via
add/remove programs.

then download and install
them from microsoft.com

the net frameworks files
can be downloaded
individually.

We copied all files (cloned) from old drive onto new WD Blue Caviar drive.
Old drive was working fine, but was completely used up.

I clicked on the Add/Remove Programs, and only see 1 Microsoft .NET Framework
2.0 Service Pack 1 file. That's all. Should there be more? Should I remove
this one and try to reinstall through the Microsoft website? Will this affect
the way my computer runs?

Cloning sometimes does not work, a better method
would be to create an Image Backup of the old drive
restore it to the new. Of course the image file needs to
be created on another drive and is usually about 60%
as large as the space currently used on your old drive.

One simple method would be to create two partitions
on the new drive. You would create and store the Image
backup file on the second partition of the new drive and
then after disconnecting the old drive restore the image
to the first partition of the new drive.

Image Backup Software:
Acronis True Image version 2009 provide a 15 day trial
of the product including the ability to create a Restore/Recovery
CD which you will need to boot from in order to restore the
image backup to the new drive's first partition.

You can also try uninstalling .NET 2.0 SP1 and then re-install it.
There is no need to install any other versions of .NET. This will
provide a quick way of possibly fixing your problem, but if the
cloning process failed with .NET who's to say there are not any
other hidden problems you have yet to discover. So keep that
old drive handy (don't reformat it) in case you need it.

well, perhaps the problem
is a little simpler than I
thought.

you did state that you
copied over your files
from one drive onto
another.

however, there are times
that after a copy, you may
still need to use a windows
xp cd to perform a repair
installation.

basically, a repair installation
helps to resync the system
files with the new location.
