KB923980 Repetitive Install Problem

P

Phil Cross

I get the gold shield in my tray, click it, and it is KB923980
requiring installation. I install it, it tells me "You have
successfully updated your computer", and all seems well.

BUT about 5 secs later, up pops the update gold shield again in my
tray, and I find it is KB923980 again asking to be installed.

No matter how many times I install it and re-install it, it always
comes back wanting to be installed again. I have tried restarting my
PC after installation - doesn't make any difference. KB923980 is still
always lurking there, asking to be installed.

My OS is XP SP2 Home, totally up to date as far as I know (barring the
above problem).

Can anyone tell me what is going on, and how to fix it, please?

Regards,
Phil.

Sorry, but I re-posted this after realising my PC date/time was set
wrongly.

Doesn't look as though anyone here can help. Could someone please,
then, tell me where I might go to get help? Microsoft seems the
obvious answer - but has someone a URL or email address which will be
responded to, please?

Have you tried this? Cut and posted from another forum:

'Here is what worked for me.. May or may not help

In windows/sys32 folder rename the following
nwapi32.dll to nwapi32.old
nwprovau.dll to nwprovau.old
nwwks.dll to nwwks.old (mine was all caps NWWKS.DLL for some reason)

Then I did the uninstall from add remove programs and rebooted.
Once rebooted I let the "Install Shield" version run.
Again with another reboot and all was well.'
