Kaspersky trial version is obstructing browser

I had AOL/McAfee running on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 8100, XP SP2 connected
via SMC router to broadband Internet) and removed it and McAfee when I
dropped my AOL subscription. Saw rave reviews for Kaspersky and ordered it
from Amazon. Then downloaded the KAV trial version to give it a try.
Internet Explorer V6 will open the first page attempted (via favorites,
shortcut on desktop or whatever). Any attempt to navigate to a new page and
the browser shuts down. Turned off KAV protection and the problem is still
there. Still there after exiting KAV entirely. Nothing would restore
browser operation until I totally removed Kaspersky. Installed IE V7 and
the problem is the same. I've seen posts about other problems with the
trial version but nothing resembling this.

Any ideas? As another poster stated, I don't want to open the box until I
can figure out what is going on.

Is it Kaspersky Internet Security suite? You probably have a firewall
with it and it may not have been configured properly yet.

I think its just the Anti-virus. That's the way the trial software is
billed and I don't find any firewall controls.
