"Nonsense"
Local shops are a great way to get a customized computer for those who do
not desire or are unable to build a computer themselves.
Having never been to Honolulu, and knowing little about it, I will not
attempt to make the assumption you might want me to make.
"Nonsense. REALLY Foolish"
What is foolish about a local shop?
Normally they can give what you want and how you want it.
"WRONG. CONVINCE ME"
You simply are not reading what I am writing.
I do not need or intend to convince anyone.
Mine is the only situation I am knowledgeable enough to make the decision.
"Baloney! I'm not going to post Personal Information."
Which is wise.
But that is also why no one here can give you an answer.
"BOTH. Support on XP will EVENTUALLY RUN OUT"
I never suggested it wouldn't, I said "...Windows XP will be supported for
years to com"
"so install Vista and find many of your current programs won't work
properly"
I installed Vista Beta a long time ago and have used man builds since.
RTM has been running well for almost 3 months so your prediction is FALSE in
my case.
All my hardware works as well as all my software.
Nero 6 has limited use, but it does all I need so the issues are irrelevant
for me.
"WRONG. CONVINCE ME"
If you say so.
As I keep saying, you know your situation better than anyone and no one can
make that decision for you.
"...and have a new machine"
Not always necessary as I have proven.
But the hardware manufacturers like this myth that seems to spread farther
than it deserves.
I have Vista successfully installed on a desktop and a laptop.
The newest component is a nearly 2 year old video card in the Desktop.
No Aero on the laptop and more memory would help but is far from necessary.
"Give us the Good Reasons ANY Home User"
As I already said, if you have read the available information, you can make
your own decision.
The reasons are on the Microsoft pages.
If they do not apply to you, do not upgrade.
I have no reason to convince anyone although you thing I should. Why?
I have said countless times in newsgroups...
It is not a good reason to upgrade anything, hardware, software, operating
systems etc simply because a newer version exists.
If there is not some type of benefit expected, stay where you are.
This applies to everything from every source, not just Microsoft.

D. Spencer Hines said:
"New Hardware from a multitude of vendors will come with VISTA installed
and we will have no choice."
That is what you said.
If that is all you will see, you need to look further.
Local shops is [sic]one place to start.
Nonsense.
I said a MULTITUDE of vendors -- NOT ALL vendors.
I wouldn't THINK of buying a computer from a "local shop" in Honolulu --
for all SORTS of Good Reasons. THINK about it.
"Try buying a computer with..." -- [Windows 95 is what I posted.]
Noted, you chose a 12 year old operating system, ancient by most
standards.
But that is not upgrading an operating system, that is upgrading
hardware.
If I really wanted, I could easily buy or build a computer with Windows
05 [sic]
or even older.
Again, a local shop could help if I was unable.
Nonsense. REALLY Foolish.
Windows XP is still supported and will be for several more years.
You say "No..." [don't elide what I say after that -- that's entirely
dishonest and disingenuous]
Again it is noted you fail to give any reason to support this answer
while there are numerous reasons and sources supporting the fact Windows
XP will be supported for years to com.
Or was the "No..." referring to FUD? Or both?
BOTH. Support on XP will EVENTUALLY RUN OUT.
"I'm still waiting for those..."
Why?
Are you incapable of reading what Microsoft states is included in Vista?
Surely you can read the available information and probably have.
"You can't even come up with FIVE."
As just stated, read what Microsoft has to say, I am sure there are far
more than 10.
I HAVE.
You STILL can't come up with even FIVE Good Reasons to UPGRADE from XP
Pro -- NOW.
It will take a YEAR or SO for many OTHER vendors who already supply
software to work on XP to UPGRADE THEIR Products -- so install Vista and
find many of your current programs won't work properly, or at ALL -- as
has been true with previous versions of Windows.
The vendors SAY their software will work just fine -- but often it does
NOT.
"And don't give us any more of those silly-buggers..."
In other words, you want someone else who is unaware of your specific
situation to dictate to you why you need to spend your money and how?
Perhaps you need to be told.
But for the rest it is not "red- herring cop-outs".
However if you insist, post details of all your computer uses and needs,
including details of all present hardware.
Also post details of your finances so a better evaluation can be made.
Be sure to include details of your business associations, family, address
etc.
With that information, I am sure someone here can help you determine if
Vista or your current operating system is right for you.
Right now, you have given NOTHING so no one can give you a definitive
answer on what is right for you.
Baloney! I'm not going to post Personal Information.
Give me TEN Good Reasons why it's important to UPGRADE to Vista, in brief
BULLET FORM -- you don't need to know my precise configuration -- but it's
a computer I bought for $4000 just over a year ago -- from a VERY
REPUTABLE VENDOR -- and I've kept ALL the software upgraded and installed
ALL the Microsoft Upgrades and Bug Fixes. Current Today. Except for
Explorer 7.0 -- which I DID install TWICE and then REMOVED TWICE. It's
not ready for Prime Time.
My FINANCES are NO limitation.
More than likely you have already decided there is no reason for you to
upgrade.
WRONG. CONVINCE ME.
AFAIK, no one in these newsgroups ever suggested you needed to upgrade to
Vista, certainly not me.
Give us the Good Reasons ANY Home User, who is computer savvy should
upgrade to Vista from Windows XP Pro -- TEN of them in BRIEF BULLET FORM.
Microsoft should have ADS like that.
I'm VERY pro Microsoft and a stockholder as well -- but I don't see the
rationale for upgrading to VISTA -- NOW.
The roll out has been botched badly -- as was that for Explorer 7.0.
WAIT until after SP2 on VISTA is the best bet -- if you can afford to wait
and have a new machine.

If all you see is venders [sic] who will only sell a computer with
Windows XP, you need to expand your vision.
I never said anything of the sort.
XP will be gradually obsoleted and then Vista will follow it to the
grave, EVENTUALLY.
Look locally for a change for still other options.
Mindless...
Contrary to fact. Try buying a computer with Windows 95 installed. But
one would have to be an idiot who would want to -- in any developed
country.
"Secondly, Microsoft will obsolete XP"
Still several years away, or do you believe some of the FUD spread by
the ignorant critics?
No...
I'm still waiting for those TEN GOOD REASONS ONE SHOULD UPGRADE TO
VISTA.
You can't even come up with FIVE.
And don't give us any more of those silly-buggers -- "All users needs
differ, so I can't say" -- red- herring cop-outs.

I've not seen any feature yet described in VISTA that is essential
for doing ALL the things one regularly does on a computer that one
can't do with XP Pro.
I still haven't heard TEN Good Reasons why it's important to upgrade
to VISTA -- or even FIVE.
There are just a lot of window-dressing, non essential, toylike,
feel-good "enhancement" features from what I've seen.
"Transparent Windows" -- utter waste of time.
Of course the REAL REASON we will all be required to UPGRADE
eventually is that New Hardware from a multitude of vendors will come
with VISTA installed and we will have no choice.
Secondly, Microsoft will obsolete XP and there will be no support for
it.
But it's best to wait until the kinks have been ironed out or the
computer breaks to upgrade -- months and perhaps YEARS from now.
