How many times does that same crapola have to be spammed into the groups

Best policy is to ignore such drivel.

Exactly. Just as with all other spammers and all other trolls.

The spammers don't come back to read reponses, so the reply is useless.

The trolls delight in geting responses, so he continue arguing and trolling.
Replying to him simply feeds and encourages him. A troll who gets ignored
will quickly get bored, and will likely stop trolling.

I'm behind you 100% on the "Just Say No" policy, but I'm sad to say, Vista
will succeed anyway. Why? For the same reason Windows 98 succeeded even
though it was so bad: the hardware industry is behind the Vista push. Think
about it: hardware sales have been in a slump. Now along comes a new
operating system that DEMANDS more memory, more robust processors and
specialized video / audio cards to take advantage of the eye candy (I won't
call them features) Vista offers. Couple this with the number of hardware
vendors NOT writing Vista drivers for existing working hardware that further
forces people to buy new hardware. And, oh yeah, all the computer makers
will not give to the option of any other OS besides Vista. Yeah, a few will
build Linux boxes, but not for the home user.

Starting to get the picture? No way can this OS fail, even though it
deserves to fail.

"forces people to buy new hardware"
Really?
How?
No one is forced to buy anything.
Who forces you and how do they do it?

However if someone CHOOSES to buy Vista, they may have to update their
hardware.
Windows Vista works well on 2 of my computers and the newest component
between them is one video card nearly 2 years old.
No one forced me to move to Vista and Vista certainly did not force me to
make any hardware changes other than a few drivers.
However I do plan to get some more memory, but that can wait.
Since Windows XP will be supported for probably several more years, there is
no reason to upgrade unless there is something else driving the need.
Whatever may be driving the need is not the hardware manufacturers or
Microsoft.

Let's just wait until all the bugs get worked out of VISTA....

After SP1 -- and perhaps SP2.

DSH

Some can wait and for some waiting is good.
As for me, Vista works fine on 2 of my computers.

And how much time and effort will you be expending to get Vista to work on
the third one?

Or -- discarding the computer.

Waste of Time & Effort.

I'll let Microsoft clean up the problems first.

XP Pro SP2 runs fine.

DSH

On the first two, no more effort than there would be with a Clean
Installation of Windows XP.
On a 3rd, no plans at the current time, but I would expect that to be
similar to the first two.
I have no problems for Microsoft to work out.

"XP Pro SP2 runs fine"
Not sure what this means since I have Windows XP SP-2 computers working fine
as well.
I never suggested anyone upgrade without a reason.

Do tell us Ten Good Reasons we need to upgrade to VISTA.

DSH

"Oh, you'll find some"
If so, I will deal with them and appropriately.
There is no such thing as a perfect operating system from any source.

"Do tell us Ten Good Reasons we need to upgrade to VISTA."
Nearly impossible without knowing the details of the specific computer as
well as the specific uses and environment.
I never suggested you or anyone "need to upgrade to VISTA".
The computer owner is the only one who can decide if the upgrade is worth it
for their computer.

But to answer your question, Upgrade to Vista when there is something you
need in that you can not get from the previous operating system.
It is not a good idea to upgrade any hardware or software just because a
newer version is available.
That applies to any hardware or software from any source, not just
Microsoft.

I've not seen any feature yet described in VISTA that is essential for
doing ALL the things one regularly does on a computer that one can't do with
XP Pro.

I still haven't heard TEN Good Reasons why it's important to upgrade to
VISTA -- or even FIVE.

There are just a lot of window-dressing, non essential, toylike, feel-good
"enhancement" features from what I've seen.

"Transparent Windows" -- utter waste of time.

Of course the REAL REASON we will all be required to UPGRADE eventually is
that New Hardware from a multitude of vendors will come with VISTA installed
and we will have no choice.

Secondly, Microsoft will obsolete XP and there will be no support for it.

But it's best to wait until the kinks have been ironed out or the computer
breaks to upgrade -- months and perhaps YEARS from now.

DSH

"we will all be required"
Not at all.
Perhaps you may require it, but the hardware or software sellers require
nothing of the kind of you.
If all you see is venders who will only sell a computer with Windows XP, you
need to expand your vision.
Look locally for a change for still other options.

"Secondly, Microsoft will obsolete XP"
Still several years away, or do you believe some of the FUD spread by the
ignorant critics?

I never said anything of the sort.

XP will be gradually obsoleted and then Vista will follow it to the grave,
EVENTUALLY.
Look locally for a change for still other options.

Mindless...

Contrary to fact. Try buying a computer with Windows 95 installed. But one
would have to be an idiot who would want to -- in any developed country.
"Secondly, Microsoft will obsolete XP"
Still several years away, or do you believe some of the FUD spread by the

No...

I'm still waiting for those TEN GOOD REASONS ONE SHOULD UPGRADE TO VISTA.

You can't even come up with FIVE.

And don't give us any more of those silly-buggers -- "All users needs

DSH

"New Hardware from a multitude of vendors will come with VISTA installed and
we will have no choice."
That is what you said.
If that is all you will see, you need to look further.
Local shops is one place to start.

"Try buying a computer with..."
Noted, you chose a 12 year old operating system, ancient by most standards.
But that is not upgrading an operating system, that is upgrading hardware.
If I really wanted, I could easily buy or build a computer with Windows 05
or even older.
Again, a local shop could help if I was unable.

Windows XP is still supported and will be for several more years.
You say "No..."
Again it is noted you fail to give any reason to support this answer while
there are numerous reasons and sources supporting the fact Windows XP will
be supported for years to com.
Or was the "No..." referring to FUD? Or both?

"I'm still waiting for those..."
Why?
Are you incapable of reading what Microsoft states is included in Vista?
Surely you can read the available information and probably have.

"You can't even come up with FIVE."
As just stated, read what Microsoft has to say, I am sure there are far more
than 10.

"And don't give us any more of those silly-buggers..."
In other words, you want someone else who is unaware of your specific
situation to dictate to you why you need to spend your money and how?
Perhaps you need to be told.
But for the rest it is not "red- herring cop-outs".
However if you insist, post details of all your computer uses and needs,
including details of all present hardware.
Also post details of your finances so a better evaluation can be made.
Be sure to include details of your business associations, family, address
etc.
With that information, I am sure someone here can help you determine if
Vista or your current operating system is right for you.
Right now, you have given NOTHING so no one can give you a definitive answer
on what is right for you.

More than likely you have already decided there is no reason for you to
upgrade.
AFAIK, no one in these newsgroups ever suggested you needed to upgrade to
Vista, certainly not me.

Microsoft should have ADS like that.

I'm VERY pro Microsoft and a stockholder as well -- but I don't see the

"Nonsense"
Local shops are a great way to get a customized computer for those who do
not desire or are unable to build a computer themselves.
Having never been to Honolulu, and knowing little about it, I will not
attempt to make the assumption you might want me to make.

"Nonsense. REALLY Foolish"
What is foolish about a local shop?
Normally they can give what you want and how you want it.

"WRONG. CONVINCE ME"
You simply are not reading what I am writing.
I do not need or intend to convince anyone.
Mine is the only situation I am knowledgeable enough to make the decision.

"Baloney! I'm not going to post Personal Information."
Which is wise.
But that is also why no one here can give you an answer.

"BOTH. Support on XP will EVENTUALLY RUN OUT"
I never suggested it wouldn't, I said "...Windows XP will be supported for
years to com"

"so install Vista and find many of your current programs won't work
properly"
I installed Vista Beta a long time ago and have used man builds since.
RTM has been running well for almost 3 months so your prediction is FALSE in
my case.
All my hardware works as well as all my software.
Nero 6 has limited use, but it does all I need so the issues are irrelevant
for me.

"WRONG. CONVINCE ME"
If you say so.
As I keep saying, you know your situation better than anyone and no one can
make that decision for you.

"...and have a new machine"
Not always necessary as I have proven.
But the hardware manufacturers like this myth that seems to spread farther
than it deserves.
I have Vista successfully installed on a desktop and a laptop.
The newest component is a nearly 2 year old video card in the Desktop.
No Aero on the laptop and more memory would help but is far from necessary.

"Give us the Good Reasons ANY Home User"
As I already said, if you have read the available information, you can make
your own decision.
The reasons are on the Microsoft pages.
If they do not apply to you, do not upgrade.
I have no reason to convince anyone although you thing I should. Why?

I have said countless times in newsgroups...
It is not a good reason to upgrade anything, hardware, software, operating
systems etc simply because a newer version exists.
If there is not some type of benefit expected, stay where you are.
This applies to everything from every source, not just Microsoft.

Hi DSH,
I can give you just one good reason to upgrade to Vista. Last week we done
upgrade to Vista Business on 157 PC’s . We’ve not any problems and Oracle
eBusiness Suite works excellent on Vista with better performance. Oh, yes the
upgrade was made by MS experienced professionals.
In case you are a home user and feel comfortable with XP SP2 just continue
to work on it, nobody push you to upgrade to Vista. I think this is not the
right place for you to expect somebody to convince you “To be or not to be….â€
Vista on your PC.
