so, windows 7 released.

Question,:: Which dimwit was given the job/employment to come up with
the name??
How much was said dimwit paid? I would have done it for 10 bucks.

Maybe the person who defected from Apple after OS7, and really thought it
has a nice ring to it :)

Yet they managed to copyright 'Windows' as a trademark, and yet, those things
that fill the holes in your walls have been around since Roman times. Figure
that one out.

Guess if they'd called it "Fenestrae VII" they might've had a lawsuit from
Nero's descendants. (The emperor, that is, not the CD burner)

The same Copyrighted "name" may be applied as long as there can be no
confusion between the items the copyright is applied to. For instance
Apple is prevented from using "Windows" for software, but GM could use
it to for the "window" in the hood of the Corvette ZR1.

You really have a need to exhibit your stupidity, don't you? Um, what
version was Vista, XP, 2000? Yeah, figured that would be too difficult
for you to find out. Yep, he go PAID more than what your parents GIVE
for your allowance.

OK, I read the wikipedia article and got even more confused! But I'm
still searching for the 'clarity' part! :) According to them, Windows
7 should be Windows 6.1 ??? Hell, I don't see a problem with naming
them by year/date. Seems that would save a lot of confusion and worked
fairly well in the past.

It's a Zen thing. Once you are so confused that you can't stand, clarity
will come. . . ohmmmmmmmmm ;-)

I agree that the date convention was fine. It's not like any company is
going to come out with a new OS more than once a year.

Some Linux distros have new versions every six months.

Yeah, but that's what the decimal and number after the main ID are
for. Like Windows 7.3 for Windows version 7, Service Pack 3!

Windows 7 is NT6.1. Check the version in a command line and you'll see.

Seems from the posts following in this thread, that 'stupidity' has now
become your label.
