Junk Email Filter and Cached Mode

I am running mostly Office 2003 and am running Exchange 2003. I am trying to
understand the change in Junk Email Filter status when Cached Exchange mode
is off/on. I have read the documentation on Microsoft's web page, and it
isn't clear to me. Do you have to use cached mode for the Junk Email filter
and folder to work. The doc speaks of the server evaluting and storing junk
email on the server. Is this per user or globally? Can someone explain the
whole concept.
Thanks in advance.

In order to use the Junk E-mail Filter you must indeed enable Cached Mode.
When you have installed Exchange 2003 you can also use the Intelligent
Message Filter on the server. This filter can work together with the Outlook
2003 filter.
