join domain

My windows xp can not join the domain
and when i ping other computers it replies some time and
request time out the other times
I checked the network cable and network connection
but there is not change
please help

Is it XP Home edition or Professional Edition? XP Home cannot be joined to a
domain.

If you are running XP Pro, what errors are you getting when you try to join
the domain?
