Joining a Domain from an XP client

Guest

This is the error I receive. I am running Win XP SP2 Professional. I am using
the adminsitrator username and password to join...

The other issue that is related is that while I have the network cable
plugged in, there is a message that says that the LAN connection is limited
or not there at all... If I unplug the network cable, it sees that and says
that the network cable is unplugged, but even after I connect, and reboot, I
still see the message regarding the LAN connection... repairing the
connection does not help either.

The following error occurred attempting to join the domain:domainname: The
specified server cannot perform the requested operation.

A domain controller for the domain domainname could not be contacted
Ensure that the domain name is typed correctly

Any ideas?

What device is handing out DHCP addresses on your network? Does it instruct
clients to use only the domain DNS server to resolve names? If you have no
DHCP on your network have you set your computer to use only the domain DNS
server?
