Java Virtual Machine

Okay! I do realize that I am not in the correct forum, but I can't find a
forum anywhere for Java related products. So, since I do have Windows XP, I
was wondering if anyone would be able to help me.

About two months ago, I somehow accidentally removed the Java Virtual
Machine that was on my computer. I was a bit scared to do a system restore
right away, so I haven't done one. Until tonight. I tried and it would not
finish the restore and I think it's because I've done other restores too
after the restore point I tried and because it is two months ago. A lot has
happened in two months. So now I know I am unable to get it back onto my
computer myself.

I've visited Microsoft/Java download sites and it keeps telling me that it
doesn't have it available for download. I never realized how important this
item was until it was gone. Now I just want it back.

If anyone can give me any sort of advice on how to retrieve this software, I
will be more than grateful. Thank you.

Greetings --

As the result of a lawsuit by Sun Microsystems, and the ensuing
settlement, Microsoft was not allowed to provide its own Java Virtual
Machine to Windows XP users. You can get almost the same
functionality by downloading Sun's version of Java from
http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html. If you want the wider website
compatibility of Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine, it is still
available from a lot of 3rd-party web sites, one of which is here:
http://www.virtualmachine.tk/.

If you do choose the Microsoft JVM, be sure to visit Windows
Update to apply a needed security patch.
