Yep- Had the latest version of Java, (Version 6, Update 6) and the
latest version of Shockwave Player.

Shockwave Player is not important. However, Flash Player *is*. And to
repeat:

Even if Flash is installed, you might have a setting that makes it seem
as if it is not installed. For example, SpywareBlaster has a setting
called Kill Flash.

If my Flash is disabled, I am not able to access Yahoo chess. I need to
close the browser, empty the browser cache, re-enable Flash, and restart
the browser!

Yep: I have the latest version of everything:-
Adobe Flash Player Active X 9.0.124.0
Adobe Shockwave Player11
etc etc.
On my Internet Options>Security>Advanced settings> ActiveX Controls & Plugs
Ins> Run ActiveX Controls & Plugs Ins - Enabled is checked.

Is there any other settings might make it seem that it is not installed, or
that it is enabled? Where would I look for these settings?

Do you have SpywareBlaster? If so, in the Tools section there is a tab
called Flash Killer.

Also, you may need to allow popups. Make sure your browser and other
programs aren't blocking popups (at least when you go to that particular
site that requires Java and perhaps Flash).

You mentioned earlier you run Windows Live One Care. I am not familiar
with it. But see if that program has any settings you need to alter.
