Java not enable for Placeware use

Tried to do a placeware session, it said IE 6 on XP had
Java disabled (I have XP professional with all the
updates). Looked at the Tools->Internet Options->
advance and saw Java (Sun) is checked (use java
2v1.4.2_01) and checked to see that the java plugin had
IE checked -- it did. Un-checked and re-checked (then
rebooted the PC) -- placeware still says Java is disabled
on the browser??? Check my home PC with XP Home and IE
with all the updates -- not problem. The only thing I
notice on the home machine (that the professional XP IE
install does not have) is a checkbox option for Microsoft
VM under the Java (Sun) option. The Professional XP
machine with IE that is experiencing the problem does not
have this.

Any ideas??

Sun originally developed Java. Not content to use Sun's Java, Microsoft
"enhanced" it with additional features, and offered the enhanced version
as the Microsoft Virtual Machine. Sun sued. As part of the settlement,
Microsoft can no longer offer its VM, and if you have XP SP1a, you don't
have it (AFAIK, that's the only difference between SP1 and SP1a, and
SP1a doesn't report itself as 1a. Use the checker at the site below to
confirm that your XPpro PC does not have the MS VM.) Unfortunately,
some web site designers implemented their sites to use the
"enhancements" and such sites won't work with Sun Java. Lucky for you,
there are several non-MS sites that still offer the old MS VM. One is
http://www.virtualmachine.tk/ Note that if you install build 3805, you
can then go to Windows Update and get the hotfixes that fix various
security holes and bring it up to the last version, build 3810.

Good info on the Microsoft VM! (Thanks :) I went to the
site, downloaded the VM 3805 (then let Windows Update
upgrade it from there) -- it now appears in the Advance
menu however, the Placeware site still says java is
disabled on my browser.

Umm... I check my other machine where it works fine on
and verified the Internet security settings and "Advance"
settings to make sure they were the same -- no
difference. I even reloaded Sun's JVM and reloaded the
system without luck.

Loaded Netscape 7.1 on the problem machine and it
validated correctly on Placeware's check browser page.

Not sure what to do next...

Opps! Missed a radio button on the Java permissions, it
now works correctly and the Microsoft VM did the trick.

Funny how Microsoft acquired Placeware and there seems to
be no reference to this problem on the Placeware or
Microsoft site.

Thanks again Peter!!!
