On our older notebook (WinXP) in the IE Tools/Options/Advanced we had MS Java
selected. We had a small free website at Geocities and when we tried to edit
a page on that site on another PC, we noticed all the text was out of sync.
Someone said that was because we had MS Java on our home PC and the other PC
we were using was not using MS Java.
Our older notebook had MS Java and Java (Sun) and we checked on the MS Java.
Now, we have received a newer desktop, but we notice it does not have MS
Java OR Java (Sun) in the IE Tools/Options/Advanced.
Now we wonder if we can work on our Geocities website with this computer. We
don't know if it has MS Java or Java (Sun). And if we do use this newer
computer to work on our site in Geocities, will the text be in line with all
the other text OR whether the text will be out of sync like it was when we
used our friend's computer (who didn't have MS Java - believe he was using
Java (Sun).
Can anyone offer any help?

Microsoft no longer supports the old Java Virtual Machine.
Instead, download and install the free Java software:

As we understand it - there is no longer a MS Java and that there is no Java
on our new computer. And that we should install the new Sun Java VM version
5. We are using a dial up service (AOL9) and downloading 15MB would take some
time, wouldn't it?
Also, if we do decide to download, is it a simple procedure (automatic
installation, etc.)? Or are there questions asked that we might not know how
to answer?
(We are senior citizens and this is all a bit new to us. We thought Java
would have been already installed on this new computer. Even paying the $10
for the Java installation disk is a bit above our means since we are living
on a small monthly income.)
Thanks for your kind assistance.

(We now see the Java 'Coffee Cup' in our Control Panel.)

If you google up "MS Virtual Machine download", you will come across many third-party websites where
you can download the MS virtual machine. Ofcourse, you will have to use your judgement to verify the
authenticity of the download.

My previous questions were directed to Carey Frisch about his post and
downloading of theSun VM; not the MS Virtual Machine. Is it possible that he
cold answer my questions? We had questions about the download of Sun VM and
also what the difference was between the two versions mentioned, namely: ver
5 and ver 1.5.0.

You seem unfamililiar with newsgroups, so for you your information the
newsgroups are peer support and anybody has the right to answer any post.
When you post a question, you should allow at least 24 hours to get a good
consensus of replies to your question since the peer groups that posts to
the newsgroups are located worldwide.
In your instance, you got a quick reply from Anando [MS-MVP] a very
respected peer group poster. It is not bad questioning the information you
get in the newsgroups, [Andrew E as an example] but you should thank the
respondent and wait for more responses. Your reply was an insult to Anando
and in this case of Anondo's reply, it is likely no more posts are necessary
as they would be redundant.

No disrespect was meant to anyone. We are just frightened about making any
changes to our computer (downloading, etc.) that might damage it. As senior
citizens we are prone to asking (maybe) too many questions so as not to make
a mistake. We just wanted to double-check some statements made by someone who
made a post. Sorry if we offended anyone; it was not intended.

Hi,

No, different versions of SUN Java Runtime Environment will not
overwrite each other.

should be used (easiest for a novice)?

No, under "Internet Options / Advanced" you will only find 1.5.0.
