I'm running Windows XP Home, SP 2. It appears I have no virtual
machine installed (not Microsoft, not anything else).
I want to go to Geocities and use their Page Wizards to build myself a
very simple (free) web site. But it seems I need to have Java
installed, and apparently I don't have it. Geocities Page Wizard Help
suggested I download Java from
http://java.sun.com/getjava/download.html
But the page won't load (can't be found). The error message says to
try
http://java.sun.com/
That page can't be found either, (on repeated tries).
Is this something to do with Java permissions or Active-X permissions
in Windows XP Home? If so, how can I set permissions to allow myself
to download Java, and to install it,and then to use it? I'm logged on
as Administrator when I do this.
I gather MIcrosoft is no longer providing Java, especially not if it's
not already installed (apparently they might have an update for
systems that do have it already installed).
Where do I set permissions? Internet Explorer, Tools | Opetions
|Internet Options? If so, what settings should I make? In which zone?
Internet Zone? Trusted Sites? What? AUGH!
I have no idea what I'm doing, in case you haven't already guessed
that.
<g>
P.S. I just managed to locate and download a file called
msjavx86.exe; 5,346 Kb, from the filemirror site inetexplorermvps.org
(or something like that; sorry I got lost - I'm always getting lost -
but I have the file; should I try it?)
