How do I enable Java script

R

Ruth L.

My computer is running IE 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254 and
claims it's Java enabled, but I can't get into a Client for Java
website, and the java tester http://www.javatester.org/enabled.html
also says "This web browser can NOT run Java applets." Can anyone
tell me what to do to get it enabled? I've been through the Tools/
Internet Options/Security/Custom Level routine and enabled Java there,
but still no go.

Thanks in advance

Ruth,

You should put it to default level in Internet Explorer | Tools menu | Internet
Options | Security tab & click Default Level

On the Privacy tab click Medium High
Click Apply | Ok

Close All IE Windows

If that still doesn't solve it then I guess your firewall is blocking it.
Disable the firewall temporarily & try again. That will prove that

Newbie,

Thanks very much for the advice. I did as you suggested but
unfortunately it still doesn't work. How do I disable the firewall on
my machine?

Ruth,

If Windows Firewall - START | CONTROL PANEL | WINDOWS FIREWALL

If Norton - right-click the icon in the system tray (near clock) & disable for 5
mins for example

If you do indeed have Norton & Ad Blocking is enabled then maybe it will have
Java Applets disabled as default. Clicking the top level of the tree & looking
in the Global settings sill show you.

First of all, Java is NOT JavaScript, in spite of the confusingly
similar names. They are very different things. The
Options/Security/Custom level stuff controls JavaScript (IIRC) and has
nothing to do with Java.

Look in your Control Panel. Is there a "Java Plug-in" applet there?
Bring that applet up, go to the "Browser" tag, and make sure that IE
is checked. If the applet isn't there, you probably don't have Java
installed. Go to http://www.java.com/getjava and download it.
