japanese websites/emails

hi,
i'm using windows xp home (english version in uk).

what annoys me is some japanese websites/e-mails appear
correctly but some don't.
the other day i received an e-mail from japan. the part
written in english was ok. the rest written in japanese
appeared as ?????????.
this happens in some japanese websites as well.

why don't all japanese websites/e-mails appear correctly?

That's because not all Asian web sites are standardized to using
unicode. Also, make sure you have selected and loaded the Japanese
IME from your XP CD (if you have a retail version). Go here for more

The e-mail you recieved probably had both English and Kanji Character
sets. And, your computer isn't set up to display Kanji properly.
