Issue logging into network

O

Otis

I have a user with a Compaq laptop running Windows 2000.
When he logs in with the network cable plugged in to the
NIC, he gets the standard message that either his username
or password is incorrect or the domain is not available.
If the network cable is removed, he can log into the
machine (with the domain selected) and does NOT get the
message that a server could not be found. He can then
plug in his network cable and have access to at least some
network resources. His machine will not allow anyone else
to log on at the moment. Has anyone seen this problem or
does anyone have any suggestions?

cached profiles work fine when physically not connected to LAN

check laptop for dns/wins configuration to resolve your local domain name.

you can always use "lmhosts" to edit it your needs (eg. adding line
"mydomain.org <dc_ip_address>)

hope this'd resolve your problem.

Was the PC name changed? I've seen that cause the effect you describe
when attaching to a domain.
