ISSCRIPT on XP

Every once and a while I get the isscript error when trying to install
software. Microsoft web site says to uninstall isscript and remove the
following key:
Click the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Installer\Products\799411B8369C3D11BBDA000CF495697A

Problem is when I look in registry, this key does not reside at this
location. Search finds it in about 5 other locations. Can those be deleted
without breaking things? Isscript also reinstalls itself.

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately I had already been to the site you
suggest. The properties popup on the setup.exe file does not give me a
version tab (only general and compatibility).

I guess the real issues is I am finding contradicting information on this
isscrupt.msi deal. Microsoft says it is a left over from previous operating
systems and is not required for XP and therefore suggests removal. This is
were the problem is as the key value is not where they say it is supposed to
be but several other locations wtihin the registry.

Again this issue is not consistent with every software I install, only once
and a while. If the vendor is using old technology or what I am not sure.
This particular software is Family Lawyer 2004. Came with this years TurboTax
product. Had no problem with TurboTax.

If I click cancel about 4 times when the popup comes up stating isscript.msi
is not found, it seems to wake up and continue with normal install. Funny how
the number of cancels seems to relate to the number of locations I find the
key value in my registry.

If you have any further resources or suggestions, would be appreciated.

Have you tried the Windows Installer Cleanup tool?
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/msiclean.htm
If ISScript entry is displayed in this tool, try removing it.

I saw that out there. A little leery about using something that has such a
warning attached to it however. Have you had any experience with this app?
Really not interested in reinstalling all my programs.

Yes, I've used this tool successfully (and adviced others to use this tool) on many occasions, to cure Windows Installer problems arising out of a conflicting program which uses W.Installer.
