Hi,

I am reading a microsoft press study guide which says that if you select
text and insert a section break, the selected text will appear in its own
section.

i find that it only puts a break BEFORE the selected text

Any Ideas?

I haven't seen the study guide so I don't know whether it's wrong or you're
misreading it.

The correct statement is that if text is selected, and you change a
section-related property in the File > Page Setup dialog and specify
"Selected text" in the Apply To dropdown, then section breaks will be
automatically inserted before and after the selection. The section breaks
will be of the "Next Page" type.

You also get two section breaks if you select text and change the number of
columns in the Format > Columns dialog (which has no Apply To dropdown). In
this case the breaks are Continuous.

If you use the Insert > Break dialog, then you're correct -- it inserts one
break before the selection.
