for anyone who responded to my post, thank you very much. Blasted thing is now gone, along with a whole lot more of malware and data miners. I was under the impression that enabling my firewall would prevent this kind of thing (and yes, my windows updates are all done), but apparently not.

Other firewalls didn't allow me access to the net even when disabled, and my ISP told me I had to actually uninstall them.
 
some bugs come in through your browser and they don't
tell ya they're coming. best to have a good firewall, i
like outpost. careful of the web sites you go to.
