Is Windows XP not Dial-up Friendly?

XP doesn't seem to want to let me disconnect from my dial
up internet connection.

When I first set up my dial up connection it worked great.
Connecting was easy and it put the connection monitor
Icon in the task bar. However, after disconnecting once
and reconnecting I find that the connection monitor Icon
no longer appears in the task bar, and without that
little application I have no Idea how to disconnect from
the internet without loging off.

And, before you ask, ive checked to see if the icon was
hidden, its not.

Is there a convienient connect/disconnect for XP that I
don't know about or is this some sort of software bug?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I use dial-up as a failsafe for my DSL line and I check
the Network Connections folder. (Start>Control
Panel>Network connections) It shows all my connections
and if you are in tile view it clearly shows if your
dialup is connected or not.

You have a problem. My system works what I would call flawlessly.
